Here are some Frequently Asked Questions for your convenience and safety.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
Should I bring a bottle of water into class with me?
What if I'm a few minutes late?
Is it okay to bring in my cell phone if I set it to "vibrate"?
Is it true that you should not wear perfume to a yoga class?
I have an injury. Can I still practice?
What should I wear?
Wear clothing you can move in. A snug-fitting knit shirt and shorts or stretchable pants are ideal for moving comfortably from posture to posture. If you have long hair, tie it back so it will not obstruct your vision.
What about my shoes?
Shoes and socks should be left on the Shoe Shelf outside the Asana (Practice) Room. Yoga is practiced in bare feet. This is based in both tradition and esthethics...we frequently find our faces inches away from the floor and we strive to keep our floors very clean.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
The Yoga Den has mats available for you to borrow. However, for reasons of comfort as well as hygiene, we do recommend that you consider buying a mat of your own. For your convenience, we also stock high quality mats by Manduka and Universal Yogis that are available for purchase.
Should I bring a bottle of water into class with me?
We practice yoga in a heated room, breathe in a certain way, and practice particular poses to heat the body both internally and externally. We do this in order to detoxify as well as to protect the muscles and joints, since warm muscles are less likely to incur injury. Drinking water during class cools the body and reverses the heat we are trying to generate. Unless you are pregnant or have a medical condition, you should save your water for before and after class.
Can I eat before class?
Do not eat for at least 90 minutes before class. Food in the stomach can reduce your range of motion and your energy level. This can adversely affect your strength, stamina, and your ability to concentrate.
What if I'm a few minutes late?
Please arrive on time. The first several minutes of class are traditionally spent in quiet meditation. If you are unavoidably late, please enter the asana room and find a spot very quietly so you do not disturb your neighbors.
Is it okay to bring in my cell phone if I set it to "vibrate"?
No. Please turn off all cell phones, pagers, and watches. Or, better yet, leave them in your car. Yoga class is your valuable opportunity to take time out for yourself.
Is it true that you should not wear perfume to a yoga class?
You should refrain from wearing perfume or scented lotion. Some people have extremely sensitive respiratory systems and scent may be a distraction to your neighbor.
I have an injury. Can I still practice?
If you have a chronic or limiting condition or an injury, please see the instructor before class. We can modify the poses to fit your specific needs. You can also schedule a private session by calling the studio at (951) 279-9642. Your Doctor's permission may be required.
